The Cross Symbolizes The Victory

"Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in cleverness of speech, so that the cross of Christ would not be made void. For the
word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." – 1 Corinthians 1:17-18 NASB.

The Cross became a subject of intense study for George Bennard. Born in 1873, in his midlife, he went through a trying experience which caused him to
reflect on the significance of the Cross. After many hours in study and prayer, he concluded that the Cross was the heart of the Gospel.
.
While conducting revival services, Bennard was inspired to write a hymn with words that "were put into my heart in answer to my own need." The hymn
was "The Old Rugged Cross," and soon after its introduction in 1913, it was being sung throughout America.
.
This hymn tells of the power of the Cross in a clear, powerful way: "On a hill
far away stood an old rugged cross, the emblem of suffering and shame…I'll
cherish the old rugged cross, till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling
to the old rugged cross, and exchange it some day for a crown."
.
Paul told us that, to those who are not saved, "the word of the cross is
foolishness." But, if we are saved, "it is the power of God."
.
How easy it is to fill our lives with pride and self, overlooking what Jesus has
done for us. But the Cross reminds us of the price Jesus paid. As Bennard wrote, "The dear Lamb of God left His glory above to bear it to dark
Calvary."
.
Today, let God know how grateful you are that Jesus died for you. Remember that the Cross symbolizes the victory Jesus won. It is the power of God in
your life.
.
Prayer: Our Loving Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to die for my sins. I will cling to the old rugged Cross and exchange it some day for
a crown. I am eternally grateful to You. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus Loving Name I Pray, Amen."
.
God Bless you.
